Karenna Peterson is a mezzo-soprano based in New York City. In the past year, she has graduated with her Master’s in Vocal Performance: Classical Voice, under the instruction of Dr. Errik Hood. Karenna hails from The Ohio State University, where she received her Bachelor’s of Music in the same major. Karenna is native to Lawrence, Kansas where she fell in love with classical performance, having been an avid choral and instrumental performer since childhood. Karenna made her operatic debut as a chorus member in Opera Columbus’ production of Tosca. In her most recent roles she has performed with Opera in the Ozarks as Suor Infermiera and La Ciesca in the Suor Angelica/ Gianni Schicchi double bill. Prior to this she was able to cover Prince Orlofsky when NYU performed Die Fledermaus. She was also able to perform three roles with the Vienna Summer Music Festival: Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, and La Princesse in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortileges. The last role was a world premiere of Lilacs and Lilies where she portrayed Petra.  Karenna is incredibly passionate about new works and has debuted two in the past few years, the first being "For my lover, returning to his wife" by Gabrielle Winter (with text by Anne Sexton), and "We talked as Girls do" (text by Emily Dickinson) composed by Claudia Beroukhim.
