
Karenna Peterson is a mezzo soprano currently in her last year of study at New York University. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in classical vocal performance, under the instruction of Dr. Errik Hood. Karenna hails from The Ohio State University, where she received her Bachelor’s of Music. Karenna is a native of Lawrence, Kansas where she fell in love with classical performance, having been an avid choral and musical performer since childhood. Karenna made her operatic debut as a chorus member in Opera Columbus’ production of Tosca. She was lucky enough to also perform three roles with the Vienna Summer Music Festival as Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, and La Princesse in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortileges. The last role was a world premiere of Lilacs and Lilies where she portrayed Petra. Her roles in NYU performances consisted of Suor Osmina in Suor Angelica, and her most recent role was in Die Fledermaus covering Orlofsky. Karenna is incredibly passionate about new works and has debuted two in the past few years, the first being "For my lover, returning to his wife" by Gabrielle Winter (with text by Anne Sexton), and "We talked as Girls do" (text by Emily Dickinson) composed by Claudia Beroukhim.
